1984 Apple Online

1998 was the year I got into web design after being invited to join 1984 Apple Online. This was a Mac usergroup website for which I wrote articles and designed various sections.

Below are designs used on the site and some prototype interfaces. At the time I thought they were good - but it’s where I came from and how I learned my ‘craft’ so laugh if you will - I can take it. Click to enlarge the images.

  My first attempt at designing the 1984 site logo. Tried to incorporate the Apple 'stripe' colours.

  I wanted to try something different for a website user interface but it felt heavy. Rejected!

  This one felt lighter than version 1 but it was still too busy and dangly! Rejected!

  Keeping the Apple colour stripe theme began to irritate me. Did this then rejected it.

  Apple insisted we remove the word Apple and their logo. So I did. Liked it but not right. Rejected

  My final design for 1984. It was never used as my role in 1984 'died' when the domain was sold.
