Things you should know about website design.

When clients ask how much a website will cost, it's not as straight forward as quoting a figure. There are many considerations to take into account:

  • What kind of website would you like?
  • What do you want it to say about you?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • Do you want your clients feedback?
  • Do you have a fixed budget to work to?

These are just a few questions you should ask yourself before going ahead. A website can do great things for a business if it's done correctly and therefore a lot of planning should go into it before you even think of the design. A bad website is like bad advertising - avoid it.

On this site you will see prices quoted as a rough estimate. There are many ways to cost a site. First there is the question of how many pages it will need, whether you want forms, external links, images or even a corporate identity to match the website to your business identity. Graphic design such as buttons, logos, illustrations or any scanning of images can add to the initial cost, but the end result will have beneficial returns in the amount of traffic the website receives. The complexity of the site content is also a contributing price factor.

We prefer to design websites to suit your needs in order to give them personality and originality, but if you're on a low budget, the examples provided can be adapted to suit you at a lower cost. We also prefer to discuss any work fully before the design process commences. As the site is a representation of you and your business or hobby etc, we need to get as much detail as possible in order to give you the website you want.

What we need before work commences.

Once we have finalised the details, any materials such as photos, logos and text will need to be provided. We prefer text prepared on a floppy or zip disk, though we can typeset written notes at an hourly rate.

When we have submitted a quote for the work, we'll require a deposit of 20% to secure the contract. We can't have you buggering off after we've spent hours on your site can we?

After the website is complete and approved, you'll have the option of having a copy on CD, ZIP disk or if it's small enough, on a floppy disk. We'll need to know whether you want a PC or Macintosh disc.

How do I get online?

We can arrange to put your website online either on your free web space provided by your ISP or have it hosted properly by an Online Provider. In either case we'll need to know your server details and password to allow us to upload the website.

Alternatively you can do it yourself once we've given you your website on disc, but we can't provide support if you choose this option.

If you have chosen to have a proper domain name we can arrange to have email forwarded to your current email address. If you use your free web space, the web address can be forwarded too. The cost of this depends on which company you choose to register with, or leave it up to us to arrange.

When I'm online, then what?

As part of the service we submit your website to over 50 search engines (all of the popular ones). Don't worry if take up is slow as some search engines take 6 months to list their websites. In the meanwhile you can spread the word via email to friends, newspaper advertisements and stationary etc,.

If you find your site needs updating regularly or you need extra pages or forms then don't hesitate to get back to us. We can arrange site updates (depending on the kind of site you have) within 24 hours.

What are your prices?

As mentioned earlier, we can only give a rough quote. But to give you an idea we've created 4 sites going from the Basic Range to Top Range and given a basic price for that style. Of course, extra pages, forms, graphics etc,. adds to the cost.

What is a Basic Range site?

Click the blue link to take you to an example site which shows you that basic doesn’t have to mean boring. This is the cheapest of the three options.

Basic Range

  • 1-5 Web Pages
  • 1 Form
  • Text Page Titles (not graphically designed)
  • Text Navigation Links (not graphically designed)

Please Note: A form occupies one web page, you may substitute a form page for a regular page. Forms can be created and form results received without the need for cgi; however, to utilize the full advantages of forms, your hosting provider must support cgi.
