This book is an attempt to clarify what socialism means at the beginning of the 21st century. The book addresses the question as to what the contemporary challenges to socialism are, and how they might be answered. In particular, consideration is given to these ideas which, it would seem from today’s perspective, will stamp the character of the coming century. This includes concepts such as postmodernism, sociobiology and chaos/complexity theory as applied to human behaviour.
